TIP OF THE MONTH | MAY 2008

Transaction Date vs. Process Date

Have you searched in the LinkShare network for a transaction on the day it occurred and was unable to locate the transaction?

It is possible that the transaction was not processed in our system on the same day in which the sale occurred.

Transaction Date: the date on which the customer places the order with the merchant

Process Date: the date on which the merchant reports the transaction to LinkShare

Below is a screenshot of a transaction report (located under Account/Transactions). If you look closely at the fifth & Sixth columns (Transaction Date and Process Date) you will see that there can be a range between when the transaction occurs, and when you send the data to LinkShare. You will see this if you report transactions on ship date rather than transaction date.

LinkShare and Affiliate invoices are run by Process Date. If a sale took place in May and was first reported to LinkShare in June, the transactions would show up in the Affiliate Payment Screen Invoice and Bill Summary for June.

Please note: This information applies to reports run in the “old” reporting system. Synergy Analytics runs on Universal Date. We will follow up with an additional Tip to explain this in further detail.
